At Jagerteam BV in Diemen, business succession was a central issue: owner Jan wanted to retire and awarded the next step to Johan and Jeroen. Johan and Jeroen were already working for Jagerteam as commercial and operations directors respectively. Because they are not only colleagues but also friends, many agreements had already been made informally. Next Steps helped Johan and Jeroen turn these into clear and legally sound agreements and close the deal. The result is an MBO that ensures continuity, trust and future-proofing.
Letting go with confidence
For many years Hunter Team was owned by Jan, an inspired entrepreneur who has earned his spurs in the cleaning industry. The company ran stably, with multi-million dollar sales and healthy margins. As he headed toward retirement, Jan wanted to turn the company over to people he knew and trusted personally.
Since there was no succession within the family, he looked to his immediate network. Johan and Jeroen, good friends and involved in the company, turned out to be the ideal successors. But it was precisely this personal connection that sometimes made it difficult to really take the step.
Getting business without losing the relationship
Johan and Jeroen wanted to do well. For themselves, for Jan and for the future of the company. So they looked for a party with extensive experience in such transfers where family or friendship ties come into play.
At Next Steps, they found just that combination. Experience with family businesses, insight into valuation issues and, above all, the ability to keep the conversation open and respectful for both clients. This kept the atmosphere good, the pace fast and the outcome fair to all parties.
Shared ownership with room to grow
The transaction was structured as an MBO with a down payment on transfer and a loan over the next few years. That structure made the financing manageable and a good solution for both parties. For the team, customers and suppliers, it means peace of mind and continuity above all. For Jan a dignified exit with confidence in the future and for Johan and Jeroen ownership of a beautiful company with clear division of roles and room to build on.
The Next Step team wishes Johan and Jeroen every success with this great next step.
