At Jagerteam BV in Diemen, business succession was a central issue: owner Jan wanted to retire and awarded the next step to Johan and Jeroen. Johan and Jeroen were already working for Jagerteam as commercial and operations directors respectively. Because they are not only colleagues but also friends, many agreements had already been made informally. Letting go with confidence
For many years Hunter Team was owned by Jan, an inspired entrepreneur who has earned his spurs in the cleaning industry. The company ran stably, with multi-million dollar sales and healthy margins. As he headed toward retirement, Jan wanted to turn the company over to people he knew and trusted personally.
Since there was no succession within the family, he looked to his immediate network. Johan and Jeroen, good friends and involved in the company, turned out to be the ideal successors. But it was precisely this personal connection that sometimes made it difficult to really take the step.
